Whiteboard + Bulletin Boards

To use to communicate with

To post important information such as events, chores, usage for the study room, reminders, quranic and hadith verses, etc

Announcements in the rooms

Now i'm thinking big half + half bullentin boards with dry erase and cork space.

Each non-personal room can have a dry erase calendar board 2 record certain activities in them

For example:

The Kitchen
Calendar board>>>(whiteboard)>>>June 2011>>>Room 4>>>Morning duty

Oh we can use personalized magnets with color for everyone in the house to use.

Each sister gets to pick a color
Shud we include their last name on the magnet? Maybe their initial? What if their are two of the same Amina's with R last names? I hope they hav a nickname orrrrr how bout dis the sister's name, her last initial and the room number.

Amina R.(R4)
Amina Raheem

We also need a key holder in each room 2

Announcements on the door

I juss had a thought....

There are alot of ways to alert people in this day of age

Walkie-Talkies
P.A. system
Text message
Phone call
Dry erase board

Anyway, i'm thinking of a way to communicate announcements on ur door
For example:
Prayer Room: Do not disturb
Sister's Room: Do not disturb

But how can we put signs on the door to let sisters know stuff
like their personal room, not for the other rooms

I was thinking, for each room there wud b a little dry erase board to write appts, chores, and other stuff on for each siter in that room, or each child and mom in that room.

How about sticky notes? (nah)
How abt Bullentin boards? (mini)

Good examples in which to use

The Hair Stylist + Times

She can be professional (recommended) or a sister who can do the basics of hair care.

She can charge or she can do it for free,
Or she can barter her services, like if she braids ur whole head, u can give her suttem of value to her that u guys can compromise on

Each mother can do her child or kids hair in the salon

There shud be at least 3 styling chairs and 3 sinks or 2 Style chairs and 2 sinks. That way u can get in and get out.

We need suttem like a soft and staright board in which kids can climb up on and have the sink their so it can be easy and comfortable to do.

Of course we can set up a schedule for when sisters get their hair done.

For example: Sister Amina of room 1 has a hair appt. with sister Rashida @ 8 am.

Sister Mufida needs an empty chair by 11 am to do her 3 daughters' hair
Make sure u guys keep a hair book to record when u had ur hair done, so the stylist and urself can keep up, and u cud also write abt ur hair like if ur on a hair journey from chemical to natural, short to long, long to short, etc.

Friday nite fashion shows

Every 2 weeks on Friday night insha'Allah a sister can host a fashion show, so that other sister's who want to look stylish can learn sum new styles to fix their hijabs, or wardrobes as well as the niqaabis too! Before + after the show u can bring ur hijabs from the rooms and get styled up! This will be held in the living room, NO FOOD nor DRINKS ALLOWED! WE shall start after Asr prayer insha'Allah.

Rent a room

I was thinking, let's say for example all the rooms cost $200 a month. That's pretty low right? Right. If each sister chips in $50 by the end of the month that wud cover the room. Or if the rent was $400 with a room of 4 sisters who worked, each would pay $100 by the end of the month.

UPDATE*** I'm not sure how much the rent would be but I know that it would probably be based on the property value and how many rooms there are and how much big you room is that if another siste were living in there as well you two could split the rent somehow...

Home school (for toddlers + kids + teens)

When u get to stay at the SSH, for moms u get to choose whether to send ur kids to public, private, teach them urselves, or let a sister teach them, and the fun part is that you get to attend in the classrooms interacting with children as well. The skool meets at 2 periods a day, one for morning and the other afternoon.

We have different age groups in which the kids can learn:

Toddlers
Kids
Teens

They'll be taught with difficult age appropriate curriculum, like core subjects such as reading, writing, arithmetic, science, etc, and of course the islamic fundamentals such as aqeedah, tawheed, etc. Each group will get a chance to be put into groups, and they will also be by themselves. They will get graded based on knowledge, effort, and performance. For the young ones, whose parents live in the house will be able to do one on one parent-teacher-student meetings in confidence to discuss and improve on such matters when advised.

After each session the groups will be given a 15 minute break (except toddlers, they will be given nap time and whatnot)

Session 1 (morning classes)
Toddlers will start @ 10 am
Kids will start at @ 8am
Teens will start @ 9am

Session 2 (afternoon classes)
Toddlers @ 2pm
Kids @ 12 pm
Teens @ 1pm

Make sure the children get a chance to eat, play and take care of other needs before coming to class.

You get to have a DSB or DSP a designated study buddy/partner to help u study of course!

What type of bed would you like?
Would you like a canopy over ur bed or not?
Bunk beds?
Double bunk bed (together or separate)
Air mattress

You only get one mattress, you can bring ur own, so don't forget to take it with u when u leave

Label products

Labels are like possessions, in this case it's for the stuff you own, so that there shouldn't be any confusion all though im sure there will be.

For example:

When 2 sisters share the same first name, add the first letter of ur surname
Amira R
Amira B

Online labels: (create ur own)

Leaving the SSH

When you decide to leave the SSH:

Make sure you clean up + out your room
Remove your garments from the drawers, closets, and shoe racks
Wash and dry your garments

Thank you for choosing to stay at the SSH. We hope you enjoyed your stay and enjoy your new home!
If you have recently been engaged before moving, we would like to give you gifts on behalf of the welcome committee, of course everyone who leaves can give the departers a farewell gift!

Sleeping Times

Everyone should be in bed by 9 or 10 pm.

Exceptions:
Working sisters
Sisters with medical problems
Sisters with dental problems
Sisters with vision problems
Elderly sisters
babies
kids

All others should find something productive to do
As muslims we should not be staying up w/o a reason. This leads to laziness, excessive sleeping, missing prayers, etc.

Alarms + Adhans

Alarms for regular timings for example to wake people up

Adhaans are for salaat and it will go off 5 days of the week

Loose change

Keep jars on you to collect change you will need then in thee future inshallah

Insurance (dental, medical, and vision)

If the house should accomodate alot of sisters over 10+ and kids, and sum mothers and sisters who don't work may not have insurance such as dental, medical, and vision how should they be accounted for? Because these places would require tax info., oh you know what we would have to ask the working sister's for their pay stubs to show eligiblity to get free d, m and v if need be inshallah.

Field trips

The kids in the household get to travel alongside with their mother's permission and they may come along if they wish. We can go to places such as: The local museum, parks, kids places, etc. We also can take out-of-state trips too. We will use the family car, and some of the other sister's cars too.

Electric Usage

You guys should know to reserve energy and NOT to leave things on.

If you happen to find a light that is on and noone is in the room, turn it off. At least during the day, open the blinds and let the natural light come in, so when it gets dark u can turn on the lights.

Visitors

Yes they are allowed, usually close friends + family only. NO non-mahrems allowed of course!

Computer Usage

We need computers that will limit the time for everyone at least 30 minutes. Everyone gets the same amount of computer time that they need, so that everyone who wants or needs to get on can get on.

You will need to use the name that you registered with and a password
If you need extra time, you may request it, and would have to wait until everyone has had a chance on it.

Whoever is the last person on the computer make sure you turn the computer off.
Reminder: Update security
Have a flashdrive to save information on. Put them on lanyards

Welcome Committe

This is a group of sisters (5 or 6)

Who help the new sisters move in and feel welcome
You also get free tote bags with gifts

What to wear?

Obviously you need to wear something appropriate because we are to follow the sunnah.

Q: When living without females in the house do you need to be covered at all times?

Q: Are we allowed to show our hair when other muslimas around when living with them?
A: No, we don't hav to wear our hijabs and abayas in the house, just dress modestly and still follow the islamic dress code

When you get your hair + feet done of course u wud need to remove ur socks + hijab

The Supply Store

It's not really a store, I juss call it that. It's a room designated to distribute supplies to sisters nd the young brothers in the house. We store the items in the storage room and pull them out and set them up in the room. So if you need any supplies, make sure you know what u need. You can make ordersfrom the computer and pick them up, or they can be delivered to our room. These items are free, but limited, so we need to make sure everyone is accounted for when receivieng the items. You may donate items to the supply store, as long as their in good + acceptable condition. For clothes + shoes make sure they are properly washed and dried.

UPDATE**** You can also borrow items out of here for the day or week and return them. You will have to sign in and out the items so we have a way to track them when another sister wants to wear an item and make sure you bring it back clean thank you!

Meal Times

Hmmm, i'm thinking abt this one. Should we go individually or as a group?
I'm thinking of having 3 different meal times (breakfast, lunch, and dinner),at least 2 times, but the NOT the same sisters.

Breakfast has two different times: Early morning for the early birds + ppl who have to go to work before this time, and morning for everyone else. Same thing goes for the other 3 meal times.

For ex: Breakfast: Early 4-7 am
Morning: 8-10am

Lunch: Early: 11 am- 2pm
Lunch: 2- 4pm

Dinner: Early: 4-6 pm
Dinner: 6-9 pm

Early for ppl who want to eat early, or who got to go work
Late for everyone else

You can eat dessert after dinner
You CANNOT eat in your rooms (unless with permission)
You may eat snacks which will be kept in the kitchen (label them)
